Sweet dreams are made of…toilets?
Yesterday I was sitting on the couch, minding my own business, when suddenly…
“MrrrwhirrrGRRR!”
I looked over to see my cat, sound asleep on top of a chair (how does she sleep in such weird positions) making noises that could only be described as a cross between a whimper, a growl, and her “let me in the bathroom so I can jump in the sink and watch you pee” call.
Cat owners, you know what I’m talking about, right?
I concluded she must be having some sort of weird dream. Which got me to thinking…what would be considered a weird dream for cats?
I can think of a few things that my cat might consider “living the dream”:
- If we left all the bathroom doors open so she can drink from the toilet whenever she wants. (Yes, she does this. It’s weird.)
- If I worked from home more often so she could jump on my laptop and provide tech support.
- If laser pointers worked as well in the daytime as they do at night.
But judging from the sounds she was making, she was not having a happy dream. I tried to think of the classic human nightmares: falling from a high place, giving a presentation and discovering you’re naked, etc. I don’t think those would really work for cats. My kitty regularly launches herself from high places. And she’s always clothed.
So here are my guesses as to what would inspire a whimper-growl reaction:
- She dreamed another cat was coming to steal all her toilet water and she couldn’t fight him off.
- Another cat stole her laser pointers.
- I decided she needed more clothing and tried to dress her in a Halloween costume.
What do y’all think? Do your cats dream? Tell me about it in the comments. Have a great week!
